Friday 23 June was the day that was initially a way in the future as the 23 Y7/8 students trained for their big day out, twice a week for an hour from 7.45am to 8.45am in the morning before school.
The day finally arrived and wow what a group of absolute determined, focused and supportive students as they navigated their way around Renwick community, covering just over 17 kms.
The group were challenged by carrying logs, stretchers, navigation, supporting the team to ensure they were thinking positively, keeping food and water intake to a point to sustain energy levels as they progressed through the day.
One of the highlights for the group and the children of the school, was to see the group pull a firetruck along Havelock Street.
The programme was created and planned by Pita MacDonald who has been a phenomenal support to the children and the staff. We can't extend enough thank you to Pita for your time and drive. The students have grown so much and it has been pleasing to see this growth transfer into the classroom and the students learning.
I'd also like to thank the Kaitiaki staff who have supported the group throughout the training and on Big Day Out. This programme wouldn't have been able to happen without your support.
Well done on behalf of the whole school we are so proud of you all and we look forward to watch you all grow as supportive, young leaders of the school.
