Pōwhiri at Waikawa Marae with Te Pā Wānanga

April 5, 2023

Te Pā Wānanga tamariki, kaiako, kaiawhina, and whānau were welcomed onto Waikawa Marae with a pōwhiri — the start of a wonderful overnight stay by the sea.

It was a privilege to join the tamariki, kaiako, kaiawhina, and whānau of Te Pā Wānanga today as we were pōwhiried onto Waikawa Marae. What a special and meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Following the pōwhiri, the tamariki spent the day exploring the beachside environment and discovering the sea life along the coast, before preparing for their night’s stay at the marae. The photos capture the group settling in and sorting out the day’s plans in the wharekai — a wonderful scene of community and connection.

Thank you to Waikawa Marae for your warm and generous hosting. It is always a privilege to be welcomed in such a way.
