Three Renwick School teams competed at the Ki-o-Rahi tournament in Redwoodtown — and our Year 5/6 team were simply unstoppable, winning every game including the final to bring home the trophy!
Three Renwick School teams travelled to Redwoodtown School to compete against other schools in Ki-o-Rahi — a team game rooted in Māori legend and played on a large circular field between two teams: the Kīoma and the Taniwha.
About Ki-o-Rahi: The Kīoma score by touching the Pou with the Kī and then running it through Te Roto to convert points, while the Taniwha score by hitting the Tupu with the Kī. Teams alternate roles at half or quarter time, making for a fast-paced and exciting game that blends strategy, skill, and teamwork.
Our Year 5/6 team had an outstanding day — winning every game and taking out the final to bring home the trophy. A fantastic achievement! Our Year 7/8 team didn’t make the finals but played well as a team and showed some genuinely talented play throughout the day.
