Renwick and Fairhall’s combined hockey team battled through sunshine, a hailstorm, and a penalty shootout to reach the Y7/8 Hockey Final — a tremendous achievement for all involved.
On Monday 19 August, the Renwick and Fairhall combined team faced Awatere in the Y7/8 Hockey Final. The sportsmanship, determination, and skill shown by both teams was outstanding, with the game ending in a draw after full time.
The match had a little bit of everything — starting in bright sunshine and finishing in a hailstorm, which certainly added to the atmosphere! With scores level, both teams went to a five-shot penalty shootout — a first for the Renwick/Fairhall side.
Awatere took the shootout 2–1, claiming the title — but what a final it was.
Well done to all our players. Making it to the final is a fantastic achievement and you should be incredibly proud. A big thank you also to the coaches, managers, and parents for the time and hard work they have put in throughout the season to support the team.
